Introduction
When switching your Merchant Center from one CSS to another, you may be contacted to change your feed file name in order to successfully be able to complete the CSS switch. Read on to understand why this request has been made, and how you can resolve this to continue working with your CSS Partner.
What is a Product Feed?
A product feed is a file that lists the products you offer on your webshop, along with the important details about those products. These details, called “attributes” allow you to create advertisements for Google Shopping. The more attributes you include in your product feed, the more information Google will be able to reference when matching your products to a user’s search query.
Switching your Merchant Center
When you switch your Merchant Center account to your preferred CSS Partner, your Merchant Center will move under your CSS Partner’s umbrella account – called a CSS Center. This account holds all of the Merchant Centers that currently fall under that CSS.
When migrating to Shoparize CSS, your Merchant Center will be placed into what is called an MCA (Multi-Client Account). In order to do so, certain aspects of your Merchant Center need to be unique in order for Google’s system to recognize it as such. The most frequent commonality between Merchant Centers is your product feed file name.
Feed File Name
Your Feed file name is what you name your product feed when uploading it to your Merchant Center. You can find this information by navigating to your Data Sources.
In order to successfully switch to Shoparize CSS, your Feed Named needs to be entirely unique to your Merchant Center. The safest way to ensure this is by including the name of your shop and any other descriptive information unique to your Feed.
To change your product feed name, once you navigated to your Data Source page, choose the Feed File that has been flagged as “not unique”
and go to “Data source setup” to change the source name.
It is not required that your data source name match the File URL in this scenario, and changing this setting will have no negative impact on your Merchant Center Account.
Once your Data Source Name is altered, please reach out to our Support Team by email or chat so we can continue with the CSS Switch process.
